What we clear

  • Building lots and home sites
  • Overgrown pasture and fence lines
  • Driveway and access road routes
  • Brush, Himalayan blackberry, scotch broom, salmonberry and wild rose
  • Thick red alder and second-growth fir
  • Stumps, root wads and debris piles

How we clear

Every lot is different. We fell trees, remove or grind stumps, and either mulch brush in place or pile and haul it, depending on what you plan to do with the ground. If you’re building, we leave it ready for site prep. If you’re reclaiming pasture, we leave it ready to seed.

From trees to a build-ready site

Because we also run excavation equipment, we can take a site from clearing straight into grading, a gravel driveway and drainage. Details on that side of the work are at baxterexcavation.com.

Permits and timber

Clearing near wetlands, streams, shorelines or steep slopes is usually regulated by the city or county, and larger clearing may also need erosion control. If timber will be sold or forest land converted, a Washington DNR Forest Practices Application may be needed. We’ll flag anything we see during the estimate so you can confirm before work starts.

Frequently asked questions

How much does land clearing cost?

It depends on acreage, tree and brush density, stump count, access, and whether debris is mulched on site or hauled off. We walk the property and quote one clear price.

Do I need a permit to clear my land?

Small clearing often doesn’t, but work near critical areas or shorelines, larger clearing, and timber harvest can. Check with your city or county planning office; we’ll point out what we see.

Can you clear blackberries and scotch broom?

Yes. Blackberry and scotch broom are among the most common things we clear. Removing roots and crowns, not just mowing tops, slows regrowth.

We also do excavation. Baxter’s also handles site prep, gravel driveways, grading, drainage and demolition. See baxterexcavation.com for our excavation services.
